Ram raid suspects remanded in custody by magistrates

MAGISTRATES in Llanelli remanded three west Wales men into custody who are accused of ram raiding a local supermarket over the holiday period.

Arrests were made after police investigated a burglary which occurred at approximately 6am on Wednesday (Dec 26) at CK’s supermarket, Pencader Road, Pontwelly, Llandysul.

Police described how a silver vehicle, which is alleged to have been stolen, was used to hit the front door to gain entry and a quantity of alcohol was stolen.

The vehicle was later found burnt out in the Pencader area, it was confirmed.

Stephen David McHugh, 42, of Larch Road, Milford Haven, Mark Ion, 47, of Scotchwell View, Haverfordwest and Daniel Ian Rogers, 32, Maescader, Pencader, Carmarthenshire all appeared to confirm their name, age and address at a hearing on Friday (Dec 28).

Bail was refused due to the serious nature of the alleged offences.

The defendants gave no indication of plea and the court directed trial by jury at Swansea Crown Court with the next hearing fixed for January 25.
