Reoffender let off with discharge

Llanelli Magistrates Court

BRYAN GARY DAVIES from Seaside Crescent pleaded guilty to theft at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on March 12. Prosecuting, Ellie Morgan told the court that the 31 year-old had entered Sports Direct in Llanelli on February 10. A store assistant said that Davies had taken three items into the changing room, but came out with only two.

He had been wearing the £8 Lee Cooper shirt, which was missing from the items he was holding, under his shirt. When asked to return it he said: “I would have paid for it if I’d realised I had it on.” Davies’ criminal record has theft matters, as well as drugs and damage charges. Steve Lloyd, defending Davies, said that the defendant finds life extremely hard. He and his family suffer from severe anxiety and depression. Davies had been in a dreadful state at the time, said Lloyd, having taken medication, but he commented that the defendant is in a better place now.

Magistrates decided to give Davies a two-year-long conditional discharge. If the defendant commits another crime in the next two years, this charge will also ‘come back to haunt’ him. Magistrates hoped this would give him more motivation to stop offending. His costs of £100 were consolidated into his existing court costs.
