New helicopter: Exercising with Tenby RNLI

TENBY RNLI were joined for their exercises on Sunday (Jan 10) by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R187 from St Athan, the first time the crew had worked with the new helicopter since the RAF search and rescue helicopter was stood down in 2015.

US-based firm The Bristow Group won a 10-year contract to provide the service with a new base set up at St Athan. The £1.6 billion deal brought to an en 70 years of search and rescue by the RAF and Royal Navy and brought to an end the sight of the yellow Sea King helicopters around the county.

Speaking about the exercise a spokesman for Tenby RNLI said: “The exercise went really well and included stretcher and casualty lifts. We look forward to working/exercising with them again in the future.”
