‘Sea monster’ washes up on beach

THE REMAINS of an 11-foot ‘sea monster’ have recently washed up on a beach near Port Talbot.

Still to be identified, the mysterious skeleton was discovered by a baffled Port Talbot couple who were out walking their dog on Morfa beach.

41-year-old Melanie Rees and her husband Mike, 47, said that they are used to seeing jellyfish, other small creatures and sea debris washed up on the shoreline, but have never encountered anything this large before.

Mother-of-two Melanie initially thought that the remains were an extremely large piece of driftwood.

However, on closer inspection, she realised that it had to be some sort of animal due to the “thousands of flies” which were circling and landing on the object.

She said: “I couldn’t believe how big it was. At first I thought it was a piece of driftwood or a big log as it was so far off the beach.

“But when we got closer, I could see thousands of flies and I knew it had been an animal.”

Her theory is that the mysterious creature could be the remains of a whale, which she said is odd as she didn’t believe that whales could wash up that far onto the beach.

She noted that some people on social media have suggested that its origins could be more prehistoric.

“People on Facebook have been hilarious. One has even said it could be a dinosaur, but I’m not so sure,” she added.
