PLAID Mid and West AM Simon Thomas has announced he is seeking his party’s nomination to be candidate in the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire seat for next year’s Welsh General Election.
Simon Thomas, Party of Wales AM said: “I have written to the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency party to put my name forward for selection.
“I have been contacted by supporters in the constituency urging me to put my name forward. With their help we can win the seat for Plaid Cymru.
“As someone who represented a nearby constituency as an MP, I have the parliamentary experience and perhaps more importantly the enthusiasm to make sure we have our best election yet and elect a Party of Wales AM to serve the people of Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.”
Simon Thomas was elected Mid and West AM in May 2011.
Since January 2014 he has been Shadow Minister for Education, Skills and the Welsh Language in Plaid Cymru’s 5 strong shadow cabinet.
Between 2007 until his selection as a candidate for the 2011 he was Senior Special Advisor to the Welsh Government, advising the Deputy First Minister and other Plaid Cymru Ministers helping deliver the One Wales programme for government.
Simon was the MP for Ceredigion from 2000 to 2005. Simon joined the Environmental Audit Committee and was recognised as a constant advocate for the environment, rural affairs and sustainable development.
