Six Nations ‘fire risk’ warning

Screen Shot 2016-02-22 at 11.04.59MID AND WEST WALES FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE is wishing the Wales Rugby Team all the best ahead of the 6 Nations, which is due to kick off this weekend.

As thousands of rugby fans head out to watch the game in the pub or from the comfort of their home, MAWWFRS is urging the public to avoid cooking under the influence of alcohol after the game – and to get a takeaway instead.

Fire fighters regularly attend serious house fires caused by cooking under the influence of alcohol, sometimes resulting in devastating, or even fatal consequences.

In 2015 the number of accidental dwelling fires across Mid and West Wales, caused by cooking was 203.

Deputy Head of Community Safety Steve Davies advises: “If you are planning on having a few drinks over the course of the six nations, as I’m sure many of you are, do please think twice about going home and cooking. If possible, think about getting a takeaway. It could be one of the best decisions you make this year!

“Let 6 Nations 2016 be memorable for all of the right reasons… with the public remaining safe and a win for Wales!”
