Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 09.26.59PEOPLE in Llanelli got an unexpected opportunity to go on a cruise as Ant and Dec’s sofa turned up at the North Dock on Saturday (Mar 26) being viewed by 16 million people on ITV.

The locations of the sofas are flashed up on TV screens during the live show ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ and people are asked to get to the location to win a chance of going on a luxury cruise.

A limited number of people are then given numbers and are in with a chance if the computer happens to choose the location and the number. On Saturday evening Ant and Dec announced that there was a special prize if people could get to the location with a packed suitcase, passport and able to take the next two weeks off.

Viewers of the show were told that a limo would be waiting to take the winner away the same evening and that a winner would be chosen at each of the four locations.

With the stormy weather conditions, the show’s producers and Millennium Coastal Park staff were able to keep things under wraps until the show was aired at 6pm.

As cars came to a standstill, potential contestants raced for a chance to be chosen to sit on the sofa. eventually 43 contestants were picked.

After a short wait number 18 was selected at the Llanelli location and was whisked off to join the cruise in Barcelona where Ant and Dec will present the fi nal Saturday Night Live show.

Winner Richard Barrett, aged 60, said: “I was cooking food and the picture flashed up on the screen. I ran out of the door all the way to the centre. When I got there I was told I had to have my suitcase and passport which I had missed Ant & Dec announce, so I ran back home and back again, the rest is history. I have never won anything and I can’t believe it. Number 18 was my old house number so it’s definitely lucky.”

Faith Jones was one of the people on the sofa at North Dock with Richard . She got in touch with The Herald and told us about her experience in the competition.

Faith told The Herald: “It was such a rush my son put TV on to record as it was on early and he said ‘mumma Ant and Dec’s sofa is down the beach’. I went in the living room and rewound the TV and knew straight away it was Llanelli beach. So I shouted to my husband, quick Ant and Dec’s sofa is down the docks.” Faith continued:

“We high tailed it down to be told we needed passports and a suitcase. My husband left for home where my twins whom I phoned had the passports ready and my husband was back in ten minutes with everything. “We registered and had our number 7 and headed out to the sofa. We were there quite early on. The crowds were building on the dunes. It was freezing cold and we were all sand whipped but having so much fun. We were all chatting about ‘what if we win’?

“For us it would have been amazing as my mum and dad are sailing on that ship too. I think in total there were 41 paddles. It was a very electric atmosphere and we were shown what to to do if we won. To run out and jump around then run to the limo.”
