Striking doctors told ‘There’s a place for you in Wales’

Plans to recruit extra doctors: Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru
Plans to recruit extra doctors: Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru

PLAID CYMRU Shadow Health Minister Elin Jones has made an appeal to striking junior doctors in England, telling them that they have a place in Wales.

Elin Jones said that junior doctors in England who were considering giving up their profession because of damaging changes being imposed by the UK Government could be a part of Plaid Cymru’s plans to recruit a thousand extra doctors to the NHS in Wales.

Plaid Cymru plans to implement a National Workforce plan that includes training and recruiting an extra 1000 doctors.

The changes imposed by the UK Government do not affect Wales, and doctors in Wales are not on strike today.

Plaid Cymru Shadow Health Minister Elin Jones said: “The UK Government’s determination to undermine junior doctors is yet another example of the Tory government’s failure to value our public services. To the many junior doctors in England who have said that they are considering giving up their profession because of the way the UK Government has treated them, I say that there is a place for you in Wales.

“Plaid Cymru has set out our plans to train and recruit a thousand extra doctors to the Welsh NHS, and junior doctors from England who want to come to Wales to work can play a part in that. This is in contrast to the Labour government’s poor record on recruiting and training doctors which has led to a doctor recruitment crisis.

“Plaid Cymru rejects the changes proposed by the Conservatives in England and a Plaid Cymru government would not impose such damaging terms and conditions on our staff. A Plaid Cymru government, if elected in May, will strengthen our health services, respect our NHS staff, and give patients the quality of care they deserve.”
