Pre-foundation students: premiering their anti-bullying film at Coleg Sir Gâr

PRE-FOUNDATION students at Coleg Sir Gâr have made an anti-bullying message the focus of a short film they’ve created with the Prince’s Trust and Into Film.

The group chose anti-bullying as a theme in response to a brief, which was to produce a short film about wellbeing.

The Prince’s Trust arranged for a film specialist from Into Film to work with the group of 11 students over six weeks where they learnt about editing, acting, script writing, filming, lighting and sound.

Pre-foundation students, who feature in the film, are often those who benefit from an introduction to college life, are returning to education or who may require some additional support with their studies or personal life.

The film was premiered at the college’s lecture theatre which showed the main character bravely speaking about her real-life experiences of being a bully and what happened in her life to cause her actions as well as her subsequent remorse.

In a documentary style film, using true accounts, this group of young people shared an emotive message about anti-bullying and the importance of reporting it.

Kim Goodwin, course leader, is hoping that the film may be used at events such as college inductions.

“I’m so impressed with this film that I’ve nominated it for a Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success community award,” she said.

“This project has brought the group together to an extent where I think it’s been an important journey for them, especially for those who would never speak in class but who grew in confidence enough to take on an acting part.”
