Swansea Council diary found in lay-by

A DIARY believed to be the property of Swansea Council, containing personal information regarding vulnerable people, was found in a Carmarthenshire lay-by.

Mark Edwards, from Tegryn in north Pembrokeshire, found the book on the A48. The information included names, addresses, dates of birth and phone numbers, with contact details for members of the public and police officers.

There was also information regarding visits this year to vulnerable adults and children in the Swansea area.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Edwards said: “I think whoever lost this book is very incompetent. This should never have been lost.

“This information should have been digital. It should have been coded. Nobody should be able to get hold of it.

“There’s a whole array of different information. It shouldn’t have been left on the side of the road.”

A spokesman from the council has said that the book has been recovered, and that the authority treated data security as a ‘top priority’.

He said: “We have very strict policies and procedures in place. We take reports of any breach extremely seriously and we are investigating this as a matter of urgency to establish the full facts.

“We have informed the relevant authorities and the document has been recovered.”
