Teenager died while at work at Glangwili Hospital – Family pays tribute

THE FAMILY of a teenager who died while at work in a Carmarthenshire Hospital have paid tribute to him.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that the death of a 19-year-old male employee at Glangwili Hospital, where he worked is being treated at sudden but not suspicious.

Rhys Evans, died suddenly whilst at work on Wednesday (Sept 9).

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We attended Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen on Wednesday morning, September 9,2020, following a report of the sudden death of a male employee.

“His family have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The family of Rhys Evans have paid tribute to the teenager, in a statement they said: “Rhys was a much-loved son and brother, and a hard-working colleague at Glangwili General Hospital.

“He would of been 20 next month. We would like to thank family, friends and staff at Glangwili General Hospital for all their kind messages and support – they have meant so much to us.”

Maria Battle, chair of the board for Hywel Dda University Health Board also offered her condolences to the family, she said: “The whole health board, and particularly those working in Glangwili Hospital, have been devastates at the loss of a dear and well like colleague Rhys Evans.

“Our deepest sympathies are with his family and friends at this time. We are providing support to members of staff affected by this loss.”

An inquest into the death has not yet open, but HM Coroner Carmarthenshire have been informed of the death.
