THE MOTHER of Adrian Ajao, the man behind the terrorist attack in Westminster last week, has condemned her son’s actions.
Janet Ajao, who lives in Trelech, Carmarthenshire, is the mother of the 52-year-old man who changed his name to Khalid Masood before carrying out the atrocity in London.
Five people, including a police officer, were killed in the attack.
Following the incident, police searched several homes across the UK, including Mrs Ajao’s home in west Wales, for any information that could help the investigation.
Now Mrs Ajao, 69, has spoken out.
She said: “I am so deeply shocked, saddened and numbed by the actions my son has taken that have killed and injured innocent people in Westminster.
“Since discovering that it was my son that was responsible I have shed many tears for the people caught up in this horrendous incident.
“I wish to make it absolutely clear, so there can be no doubt, I do not condone his actions nor support the beliefs he held that led to him committing this atrocity.
“I wish to thank my friends, family and community from the bottom of my heart for the love and support given to us.”
Following the search, police re-assured the public that nobody in the area was at risk, nor was Mrs Ajao under suspicion.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “The Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit (WECTU), supported by officers of Dyfed-Powys Police, have today provided assistance to The Metropolitan Police, following yesterday’s incident in London.
“In doing this, they have conducted a search of one property in Carmarthenshire – this search has concluded. The occupants are receiving appropriate support. They are not suspects and have not been arrested.
“There is no threat to the area and we are supporting the broader investigation by the MPS Counter Terrorism Command. We will continue to review our security arrangements working with colleagues and partners across Wales and wish to reassure our communities that Dyfed-Powys remains one of the safest areas to live, work and visit.
