Three Towns Exhibition begins

screen-shot-2016-11-09-at-11-28-04THE OPENING of the Three Towns Art Exhibition took place on Saturday morning (Oct 15) and was attended by Llanelli MP Nia Griffith, Mayor Cllr Bill Thomas and Chairman of the Rural Council, Cllr Steve Donoghue.

The Three Towns exhibition is hosted in a different town each year and 2016 is Llanelli’s turn. Paintings are displayed by Art Society members from Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford. The exhibit shows a wide range of art through different styles and techniques in acrylic, oil, pastel and silk painting.

There is no specific theme for the exhibition and the paintings cover a wide range of subjects and themes entered by members. There are 92 paintings by members of the Llanelli Art Society, 34 paintings by the Ammanford Art Society and 10 paintings by Carmarthen Art Society.

Several paintings were very highly commended, highly commended and commended, which were judged by local artist and teacher Stefan Ebsworth.

From Ammanford Art Society, Audrey Norman was commended with her painting ‘Poppies’, ‘My Miss Pears’ by Anne Roberts was very highly commended, and Anne Roberts’ ‘Waiting’ pencil drawing was very highly commended.

For the Carmarthen Art Society, Ros Osborn’s watercolour and collage was commended.

In the Llanelli Art Society, Sheena Harries’ ‘Fisherman’s Cottage’, Sheena Lewis’ ‘Bob Marley’ made with charcoal and ‘Pembrey Marshes’ by Susan Harries were commended.

The following artists’ work have been highly commended: Mary Wyatt with ‘The Cottage’; Amanda Martin, who painted ‘Following Mummy’, which combines graphite and charcoal; Colin Robins with ‘The Beach’; a pastel painting ‘London’s Burning’ by Susan Harries and also an acrylic painting by Frank Goddard called ‘No Windmills or Pylons’.

In the very highly commended category, the following artists were awarded: Pam Jones with her pastel painting ‘Holly the Collie’; Sharon Herbert’s pastel painting ‘Sun Catcher’ and with a watercolour painting, Julie Hall with ‘Fuchsias’.

Mary Wyatt won the Ken Etheridge award with her painting ‘It’s a Dog’s Life’, which is a pastel-based painting.

The exhibit is open until October 29, between 10am until 5pm Monday to Saturday in Llanelli Library. There is free entry to the exhibition.

The Llanelli Art Society meet the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm until 9pm in the Conservative Club. It is £5 for a meeting or £18 for the year.
