CARMARTHEN TOWN have called an Extraordinary General Meeting as current Chairman Jeff Thomas has announced he is to step down from his position at the club.

The meeting will be held in the Community Centre Clubhouse at Richmond Park, Priory Street on the January 25 and will commence at 7pm.

The Chairman, who drew criticism from some parts over the rebranding of Richmond Park as the Vibrant Vapours Stadium, will continue to have a significant role within the club. Thomas will be an adviser for the club’s new Chairman and will contribute significantly to further developments. He has been the driving force behind the club since its promotion from the Welsh League and he is currently completing work on the new 3G surface development proposal.

The current directors will retain their positions within the club but the intention is to increase the number of directors to ensure that Carmarthen Town strengthens its position within the football community in West Wales.

Besides the Chairmanship two new directors need to be added to the structure. A Director of Communications is required to co-ordinate the work of the club as an entity, while the second role is that of the Community Club Director.

Those interested in these roles are asked to contact Secretary Gareth Jones, (07814 262656 / [email protected]) by January 22. More details will be available after the initial contact.

Recent developments within the club have made these appointments a priority for the Old Gold. The bourgeoning Carmarthen Town Development Centre under the auspices of Keiran Davies has ensured that young talent within the area is given a chance to develop within the club structure. As the relationship with partner clubs, Carmarthen Stars and Peniel Panthers, develop further the club has need to ensure a sound infrastructure. In addition the partnership with Newcastle Emlyn Ladies team has made ladies and girls football of the highest standard available in Carmarthen.

Further advances will be made as the final plans for the new 3G surface at the ground come to fruition but in order for that to be successful there is a need for further developments. Another appointment to be made on the evening will be that of Assistant Secretary to complement the work of the current Secretary.
