Transport police want help with alleged sexual assault on train

BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE are appealing for further information after a man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on the Carmarthen to Manchester train.

The incident happened from 7.40am as the train travelled between Port Talbot and Cardiff Central.

The suspect is reported to have sat behind the victim, aged in her 20s. He then reached through a gap in the chairs and touched her inappropriately.

The victim moved away from the area and a female passenger was seen shouting at the suspect.

A male passenger is also reported to have told to suspect to stop “pestering” the victim.

Officers were informed when the train arrived at Cardiff Central.

The man, aged 18 and from Swansea, was arrested at the station on suspicion of sexual assault.

He has since been released on bail until Saturday 10 August with conditions not to enter the rail network.

The service was the 5.55am train from Carmarthen in Wales to Manchester Piccadilly.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident. They would especially like to gain the witness accounts of the two passengers who intervened.
