Two police officers in court following anti-corruption probe

Police tape at scene of shooting of WPCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona BoneTWO serving police officers are due to appear at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday May 19) charged with wilfully neglecting to perform their duty whilst being holders of public office.

The police officers are alleged to have, contrary to common law, misconducted themselves in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by supplying a controlled drug of Class B to a person as an incentive to provide information and thereafter failing to follow correct police procedures.

Stephen Greensmith, age 54, of Bronwydd, Carmarthen and Rhys James, 37, of Abergwili, Carmarthen are alleged to have both committed the offences last year between July 5 and August 23 in Llanpumpsant.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police “As a result of an investigation by the Dyfed Powys Police Anti-Corruption Unit two officers will appear at Llanelli Magistrates Court on Thursday May 19 charged with misconduct in public office.

The spokesperson added: “The officers are suspended at this time. Dyfed Powys Police expects the highest standard from our officers and staff and the appropriate action will be taken to maintain these standards.”
