Valero announces planned date for A48 reopening

123857-road-closed-sign-quality-imageIT WAS announced this morning (Oct 21) by Valero that the A48 is scheduled to reopen fully on Tuesday, November 1.

The oil refinery also talked about the next stage in the work required to clean up the kerosene that leaked from a pipeline during the maintenance work.

In total, over 140,000 litres of kerosene leaked from the pipe earlier this month around Nantycaws, including the Nant Pibwr.

As of  Monday (Oct 17) 120,000 litres had been cleaned up, Valero confirmed.

A Valero spokesperson said: “Remedial work is now underway at the worksite and to the surrounding environment, some of which will allow for the long-term monitoring of the local environment.

“This will include roadside boreholes and resurfacing of the road. The eastbound carriageway is scheduled to be fully open on November 1.

“We apologise to all local residents and commuters for the inconvenience this may cause and to reassure them that we are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
