Exotic pets on display at vets’ open day

AN OPEN day at Carmarthen Veterinary Centre had plenty to interest pet owners and animal lovers of all ages, from small to large, farmyard to exotic.

Into the Wild Encounters attended the open day on Saturday (Nov 18) with their fantastic collection of Exotics. A meerkat, armadillo, skunk and kookaburra were amongst the unusual animals they brought.

Exotics can be treated at Carmarthen Veterinary Centre by colleagues from Origin vets. Vet Lance Jepson from Origin attended with his collection which included a tarantula.

Also welcomed on the day were the local branch of the Cats Protection League and the charity Great Dane Care who also brought two of their Danes. They definitely enjoyed the attention and treats from admirers!  Both charities were on hand with information about their organisations and are always on the lookout for volunteers.

Visitors were treated to a tour of the practice, with a chance to see behind the scenes, check out the facilities and to learn about the services on offer.

“Our fantastic team of Vets and Nurses were on hand to answer questions. A highlight for our younger visitors was our ‘Jelly theatre’ manned by small animal Vet Bryn and the face painting skilfully undertaken by Nurse Katie. Perry Bespoke Pet photography were also busy with their Christmas themed pet photo booth,” a spokesperson said.

Out in our stable block, large animal Vets Helen and Sam undertook the job of painting a skeletal system onto the outside of one of Helen’s cattle. The impeccably behaved cow enjoyed all the extra attention and cattle cake. Visitors were suitably impressed with the artistic talents both Vets showed and enjoyed the opportunity to get up close to such a large farm animal.

Next year Carmarthen Veterinary Centre celebrates their 10th Anniversary. They are hoping to lead on from the Open Day’s success and look forward to greeting faces old and new at the event in the spring.
