Violent Cardigan man runs out of luck

swansea-crown-courtA CARDIGAN man who attacked his former girlfriend just three months after being given a suspended prison sentence for gbh has been jailed today (Aug 12).

Aaron Neil Hopkins, aged 22, of 5 Golwg y Castel, was told by a judge at Swansea Crown Court his luck had run out.

Hopkins had been sentenced in November, 2015, to 13 months suspended for two years after he thumped a man to the ground and then kicked him, breaking his eye socket.

Dean Pulling, prosecuting, said the following February he had gone out for a drink with his former partner Rebecca Carol Jones to the Lamb Inn in Cardigan town centre.

The evening went well until Hopkins began complaining about entries on Miss Jones’ Facebook page relating to a night out she had enjoyed with friends two weeks earlier.

Miss Jones became worried and when Hopkins went to the toilet she left to join a friend at The Wine Bar.

Hopkins tracked her down and pulled her out of the bar by her hair.

Then he attacked her a second time and damaged her handbag.

Hopkins was convicted of two offences of battery and one of causing criminal damage.

Judge Paul Thomas jailed Hopkins for 10 months.

He told him, “You assaulted that woman because you had drunk too much and created an ugly scene.

“You humiliated her as well as hurting her.  This was another loss of temper while drunk.

“You have run out of chances,” added the judge.

Judge Thomas also issued a restraining order banning Hopkins, a trainee bricklayer, from contacting Miss Jones on his release from prison.
