Viral video catches dog fouler

A MYSTERY woman who failed to clean up after her dog in Carmarthen has been identified within hours after a video was posted on Facebook.

Over 30,000 people watched the CCTV video clip which showed her walking along with her dog on John Street in Carmarthen, waiting for it to defecate and making no attempt to clear it up before walking off leaving the mess behind.

The clip flooded Facebook news feeds after being posted by Carmarthenshire County Council,  just before Christmas. It attracted hundreds of reactions, shares and comments and the woman was tipped off by someone she knew.

Thanks to members of the public she identified herself to the council and enforcement officers are now following the legal process. It is an offence not to clear up after dogs.

If anyone fails to comply with the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) they are committing a criminal offence and can be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £100, reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days. The maximum fine if prosecuted in the magistrates court is £1,000.

The council’s executive board member for responsible for enforcement, Cllr Philip Hughes said: “We would like to thank the public for their assistance in helping to identify this woman, without their help this woman would have simply got away with it.

“Not only is there a potential health risk with dog faeces, allowing your dog to foul and expecting other people to clean it up is totally unacceptable. We will continue to act on information provided by the public to help us catch offenders.”
