VULNERABLE individuals and young people are among the big winners of a grants scheme launched by Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner

A new report shows that 39 of the first 45 grants from the Commissioner’s Fund have benefited such residents of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys.
Christopher Salmon said: “I want to protect vulnerable people and encourage activity that makes our communities safer; the Commissioner’s Fund is one way I can do that.”
The Commissioner’s Fund, launched 18 months ago, offers grants of up to £5,000 for charities, voluntary organisations and community groups to develop ideas that have a positive impact on the area they serve.
The projects, nominated by frontline police officers and Dyfed- Powys Police staff, reflect in some way Mr Salmon’s 2013-18 Police and Crime Plan for Dyfed-Powys.
They can, for example, educate, protect or support groups, or aim to change the behaviour of potential or persistent offenders.
Total funds are reviewed regularly. The latest round of funding offered £75,000. Successful applicants are due to be announced in February.
The new report on the Fund by the Commissioner’s Office gives an overview of the scheme’s first two rounds. It shows that the value of the 45 grants totalled £156,000.
