Walking bus pupils enjoy taste of luxury for end of term

YOUNGSTERS who have been pounding the pavements to school every day were given a special end of term taste of luxury at Neyland Community School on Friday, July 15.

Eleven pupils who have been part of the school’s Walking Bus since November were picked up from school in a luxury limousine bus hired from Top Class Cars.

Neyland Community School Headteacher, Clare Hewitt, said: “Our group of 11 children have walked to school and home every day – whatever the weather!

“They always have a smile and enjoy a chat with the adults and each other – it has quickly become one of our favourite times of the day.

“We wanted to say ‘well done’ and thank you to the children for being so amazing over the last 9 months and can’t wait to continue with our Walking Bus in September.”

The Walking Bus scheme is supported by Pembrokeshire County Council and was initially set up as a pilot.

It has been incredibly successful, and the school now runs a second route down the High Street which is supported by parent volunteers and school staff.

Mrs Hewitt added: “It promotes walking, whilst teaching road safety skills and also develops friendships and positive relationships with staff and adults.

“All the children arrive in school, ready for breakfast in their classrooms with their friends – what a great and positive start to the school day.”
