The Met Office have issued another set of weather warnings for today (Jan 29) as Storm Gertrude’s gale force winds and torrential rain are set to batter the country once again until 6pm tonight.

Predicted 2-4cm of rain and winds of up to 80mph have been causing chaos all over Britain, with the Severn Bridge being forced to close after an overturned lorry had to be removed near Junction 2 on the A466 this morning. 8,500 homes in Scotland have also lost power due to the storm.

Storm Gertrude is following in the wake of Storm Jonas, whose high speed winds from earlier this week uprooted trees, disrupted electricity and closed bridges.

Storm Gertrude has already affected power throughout Wales, with about 300 properties in Ceredigion losing power due to the storm.

The RNLI advise everyone near the coast, where Gertrude will hit hardest, to “respect the water” as big waves crashing over cliffs, sea walls and piers can easily wash people out to sea.
