A POD of dolphins that found themselves stranded on an Welsh beach has been successfully rescued. The incident, which took place on January 31, saw the local Coastguard teaming up with volunteers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue to aid six common dolphins in distress.

The rescue operation unfolded on the sandy shores of Anglesey, where the dolphins had unfortunately become beached. Alerted to the situation, the Cemaes Bay Coastguard promptly responded, lending their support to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue volunteers who had been tirelessly working throughout the day to ensure the well-being of these marine animals.

Thanks to the unwavering efforts of the volunteers, who spent the day closely monitoring and assisting the stranded mammals, the dolphins were eventually able to make their way back to the sea, aided by the evening’s high tide. The successful return of these dolphins to their natural habitat marks a significant achievement for all those involved in the rescue effort.

Speaking on behalf of the Coastguard, a spokesperson shared their thoughts on the day’s events: “Today’s rescue operation was certainly out of the ordinary for our team, but it underscores the critical importance of our collaboration with dedicated volunteer groups like the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Marine Medics. Their remarkable commitment to saving these dolphins, which involved a full day’s work of careful monitoring and assistance, played a pivotal role in the positive outcome of this incident.”

The spokesperson also issued a reminder to the public about the correct course of action should they encounter similar situations in the future: “We urge anyone who comes across marine animals in distress to refrain from approaching them directly. Instead, we advise contacting the relevant authorities to ensure that professional help can be provided.”
