RESIDENTS in Conwy and Llandudno Junction are breathing a sigh of relief as repair work to the flyover bridge is scheduled to finally come to an end.
Council contractors are expected to finish surfacing work and installing “movement joints” by the evening of Wednesday, July 5.
Whilst the bridge, which has been closed since the middle of June, will open, the council says the inner lane of the Weekly News roundabout will remain closed for several days.
However, all roads leading to and from the roundabout will be fully accessible.
Lorraine Gorst, who has owned Daily Chain Floral Designs in Conwy for the past 13 years, said: “We are absolutely relieved. It has been quiet.
“Takings are down for most people. It was a nightmare again this morning with people trying to get to work.
“But we are looking forward now, hopefully, to a busy season.
“Hopefully this is it now, and the bridge is not closed for any more work. We are all relieved we can get back to normal.”
Repair work on the flyover started on April 17, but the whole bridge has been shut since Monday, June 19, meaning many drivers have had to queue and take detours on the A55.
The council says the bridge was closed to “allow safe working for reconstructing the road and replacing the bridge expansion joints”.
Nurse Louise Evans, 46, travels from Gyffin in Conwy to Llandudno every day and also says she is relieved the work is finally coming to an end.
“I’ve dreaded leaving for work every morning, even before the bridge was closed,” she said.
“It’s been a real pain, and lots of people have had to leave much earlier just to get to work on time.”
The work follows on from a similar schedule of work on the flyover last summer.
This summer’s work was originally scheduled to finish on July 20.
