MS calls for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to tackle parking problems at North Wales Hospitals

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging the Local Health Board to urgently look at ways to improve parking at North Wales’ three main hospitals.

Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Health, was commenting after it was reported that BCUHB were looking at options to tackle the problem at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

He said: “It is time for the health board to consider the parking situation at Wrexham, Glan Clwyd and Bangor hospitals.

“Every hospital has major problems with lack of parking spaces and I constantly receive emails from concerned constituents who are frustrated about the situation.

“I have had a number of reports of people parking on double yellow lines or on pavements and grass verges just so they can make sure they don’t miss appointments.

“There is also chaos at the main entrances when people are dropping off patients as drivers then have to drive round and round trying to find somewhere to park, causing a build- up of traffic on the roads in the hospital.

“When you are attending a hospital appointment or visiting a sick relative and all the stress that goes with that the last thing you need is to worry about parking.

“It is about time the health board started seriously tackling the lack of parking spaces in our major hospitals.”
