1,000 new technology-related jobs to be created by PwC in Wales

The growth of a professional services firm will result in the creation of 1,000 new positions in Wales by 2028.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is expanding its existing 500-strong team in Cardiff, focusing on digital and technology roles.

This development comes in the wake of significant job losses in Wales, and as UK pay growth exceeded inflation for the first time in two years. According to John-Paul Barker, a representative from PwC, the economic climate in Wales is conducive for such job opportunities.

The international firm, specializing in services for businesses and the public sector, announced that the creation of these new positions signifies an investment worth millions of pounds in the Welsh economy. This includes expenditures for leasing and setting up a new office.

Mr. Barker, the company’s regional head for Wales and the western region of England, explained that these newly established roles will be forward-looking, with a digital-first focus on areas such as cyber and ethical hacking.

“The demand for those skills is only going up, and this is a great opportunity for Wales to make sure we are at the forefront of the next industrial revolution,” he said.

“We are creating jobs where people right here in the Cardiff office will be serving clients all over the world.”

The Welsh government is dedicating £2 million to establish a “partnership” with PricewaterhouseCoopers, with a commitment to prioritising employment opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Hamed Amiri, a senior manager at PWC in Cardiff, expressed the hope that his personal journey would serve as an inspiration for others to consider applying for these new positions.

Mr. Amiri, who arrived in the UK as a refugee after his family fled Afghanistan, affirmed his support for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ goal of recruiting individuals from underprivileged and diverse backgrounds, saying: “It allows people from all types of communities to know that there is a role here for you,”.

“I want to create a loop back, where we go back to our communities and say, ‘Look, I was that kid in Cathays who never thought I would have that role as a senior manager’.

“It’s possible for you too. And I want that to be a continuous cycle.”
