Firefighters to Tackle Cardiff Half Marathon

ON October 1st, four firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) will be taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon – in full firefighting kit!

Carwyn, Dewi and Tom from Aberystwyth Fire Station and Owain from Carmarthen Fire Station will be undertaking the 13.1mile course through Cardiff City Centre wearing full firefighting kit and carrying breathing apparatus sets – weighing around 15kg.

The team are taking part in the half marathon to raise important funds for three worthy charities:

  • The Fire Fighters Charity which offers information, advice and support to serving and retired members of the UK’s fire and rescue service community.
  • The Wales Air Ambulance Charitable Trust which delivers 24/7 pre-hospital emergency medical service across Wales.
  • 2 Wish which provides support to anyone who has been affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person.

In preparation for the event, the team will be hosting a series of small events to start their fundraising and training efforts.  The first of these events was held on Saturday, July 8th, where the team completed a few laps along the Aberystwyth Promenade.  Dressed in their firefighting kit, the four team members walked up and down the seafront carrying collection buckets.

Regular updates will be shared on the Aberystwyth Fire Station Facebook page and you can support the team by donating to their JustGiving page.
