Disability Sport Wales invites you to the Disabled Young Leaders in Sport Inspiring Connections Event at Cardiff’s Tramshed

DISABILITY Sport Wales is holding a Disabled Young Leaders in Sport Inspiring
Connections Event, which will take place at the Tramshed in Cardiff on Thursday 10
August (11:00-15:00) – and it is inviting you to come along for free!

The Disabled Young Leaders in Sport Inspiring Connections Event is an opportunity
for disabled young people in sport to come together in an inclusive and relaxed
environment to build connections, be inspired, and inspire others.

Disability Sport Wales aims for this concept to become an annual event, and its first
iteration will focus on the theme #JustAsk.

The Tramshed has been chosen to host the event as it is not only a great multi-
faceted and fully accessible entertainments venue, but also home to Whisper Cymru,
whose parent company Whisper TV produced the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and will
produce the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Whisper TV has an 18% workforce of disabled talent working behind the camera,
and earlier this year it embarked on a disabled recruitment drive to increase the
percentage still further.

Liz Johnson, the Paralympic, World and European Championship gold medallist,
works at Whisper TV as an Executive Producer.

The Disabled Young Leaders in Sport Inspiring Connections Event will feature an
informal networking lunch, followed by a networking session (similar to a careers
fayre) with an area for stalls and stands where organisations can showcase their
opportunities to the young leaders attending. These will include work opportunities,
access to support or services from the organisation, apprenticeships, qualifications,
voluntary opportunities and much more.

The Inspiring Connections Day will also include a live recording of the Disability
Sport Wales Podcast. Hosted by T11 sprinter James Ledger and split into three
sessions, special guests from the para sport world and beyond will discuss topics
that encourage an environment to #JustAsk any questions that you may have about
disability, impairment and para sport.

During the Disabled Young Leaders in Sport Inspiring Connections Event, there will
be a live recording of the Disability Sport Wales Podcast. Hosted by T12 109/200m
sprinter James Ledger, guests include athlete Funmi Oduwaiye, who has just
returned to her home in Cardiff after competing at her first World Para Athletics
Championships, Welsh international Wheelchair Basketball player Libi Phillips, who
plays for Cardiff Met Archers in the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier
League, and Chloe Jordan who is the Wales Project Officer at Youth Sport Trust, co-
Chair of the European Hockey Federation Youth Panel, and a Young Delegate for
ENGSO Youth on the education and employability working group.
