Housebuilder extends Key Worker Scheme to RNLI workers and foster carers in South Wales

BARRATT and David Wilson Homes South Wales announced on May 21 the extension of its popular Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme to thousands more key workers across Wales — including RNLI employees and volunteers, and foster carers.

Since its launch in 2022 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service, the scheme has given support totalling over £1.25 million to 76 key workers and their families in South Wales alone.

Now, the housebuilder can support more key workers than ever before to afford their new home — offering £1,000 as a deposit contribution for every £20,000 of a home’s purchase price. For example, on a home costing £325,000, key workers would qualify for a contribution of £16,250.

And it’s not just NHS, Police Force and Fire Service staff who are already benefiting from the Scheme. Workers in the Education sector, Ministry of Defence, Environmental Service, National Highways, Transport for Wales, Probation Service, the Local Authority and the Prison Service can all benefit from the Scheme’s support.

Richard Lawson, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes South Wales, said: “The UK is estimated to have some 37,000 RNLI employees and volunteers, and 60,000 foster carers — so it’s an honour to be able to support so many selfless individuals with their purchase of an energy-efficient, new-build home.

“What’s more, we’re also currently offering flooring to buyers as part of the scheme, at no additional cost — worth up to a further 1% of the value of the home.”

Dave Nicoll, Fundraising Partnership Lead at the RNLI, said: “We are delighted to join this scheme and work with Barratt and Wilson Homes to offer RNLI employees and volunteers the chance to buy their own home.”
