Local developers proud to support Welsh Premiership rugby team

A local housing developer and major South Wales employer is one of the new sponsors of Merthyr RFC.

Persimmon Homes East Wales’ logo will now appear on the Iron Men’s shoulders when they don their jerseys for their matches.

The five-star housebuilder is constructing nearby the club ground, Y Wern, at their Porth y Dyffryn site in Twynyrodyn, with new homes coming to the market soon.

The funding came from the business’ Community Champions scheme which sees the East Wales region donate £24,000 each year to good causes and commendable organisations in the areas in which it develops.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes East Wales Sales Director Victoria Williams said:

“We are proud to sponsor Merthyr RFC and are excited to follow their progress in the Indigo Welsh Premier Division this season.

“The club has a huge presence in the town and we know how much it means to all those who love the Iron Men and also the role it plays in the community, so they are a perfect fit for our Community Champions scheme.

“I’m sure the future residents at our Porth y Dyffryn site in Twynyrodyn will only serve to add to Merthyr’s fan base and we look forward to seeing our first properties on the market soon.”

Merthyr RFC Commercial manager Gareth Howells added:

“We’re delighted to have secured Persimmon’s support for the upcoming season and look forward to doing all our sponsors proud.

“The club has ambitious plans for our home ground – which is well used by the community as well as Merthyr RFC itself – so getting sponsorship from local businesses is so important.

“Under our head coach, Roland Phillips, the Iron Men seek to go from strength to strength over the next few months, proudly doing so bearing the Persimmon name.”
