THE COUNCIL has explained how services will be running in Merthyr Tydfil during the May Day bank holiday this year.

It said that the civic centre and other council offices and departments will be closed on Monday, May 6.

Refuse and recycling collections will be made on the normal days but there will be no bulky collections throughout the bank holiday period with collections resuming on Tuesday, May 7.

Sharps and dialysis collections will be unaffected over the May bank holiday period and household recycling centres (HRCs) will be operating normal summer working hours.

The reuse shop at unit 20, Merthyr Tydfil Industrial Park, Pentrebach will be open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Monday, May 6.

The telephone number for emergencies relating to drains serving Merthyr Valley Homes properties during the holiday period is 01685 385231.

Sewerage problems relating to all other properties should be directed to Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water on 08000 853968.

For social services emergencies people are advised to contact the emergency duty team on 01443 743665.

The council’s cemetery office will close on Saturday, May 4, Sunday, May 5 and Monday, May 6, re-opening from 8.30am until 4pm on Tuesday, May 7.

Council cemeteries are open for pedestrian access 24 hours a day and the summer opening times for vehicle access are 8am to 8pm at Cefn Cemetery, 8am to 8pm at Pant Cemetery, 8am to 9pm at Beechgrove Cemetery and Aberfan and Graigfargoed are open 24 hours a day.

For burials, internment applications received on Monday, April 29 will involve burials taking place on Friday, May 3.

Those received on Tuesday, April 30 will involve burials on Tuesday, May 7, for Wednesday, May 1 it will be Wednesday May 8, for Thursday, May 2 it will be Thursday, May 9 and for Friday, May 3 it will be Friday, May 10.

It’s closed on Monday, May 6 but those received on Tuesday, May 7 will be on Monday, May 13 and those received on Wednesday, May 8 will be on Tuesday, May 14.
