May bank holiday council services in Rhondda Cynon Taf

THE COUNCIL has laid out how services in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) will operate over the May Day bank holiday this year.

The council will be closed from 5pm on Friday, May 3 and re-open at 8.30am on Tuesday, May 7 and this applies to all major services aside from out-of-hours emergencies.

There are no changes to recycling and waste collections this May bank holiday and the community recycling entres (CRCs) are open all over the bank holiday – summer opening hours of 8.30am until 6.30pm.

To contact a member of the social care team over the bank holiday, for out of hours social care emergencies, people are advised to call 01443 743665.

The council said that the community meals team will support its people over the bank holiday and menu options have been discussed with them to pre-order where needed.

Information and advice on homelessness can be found on the homelessness page of the council website and an out of hours emergency service is also available throughout the bank holiday by calling 01443 425011.

The register office at the Municipal Buildings in Pontypridd will be closed from 5pm on Friday, May 3 and re-open at 9am on Tuesday, May 7.

The main cemeteries and bereavement services office at Glyntaff will be closed on Monday, May 6 and re-open on Tuesday, May 7.
There are currently no changes in place for cemetery grounds over the bank holiday period.

The council said that there are sometimes exceptional circumstances when it has to close the cemeteries to vehicles at short notice.

If it is necessary to close a cemetery to vehicles, a notice is placed on the cemetery gates advising the public and as soon as it is safe to do so the cemetery gates are opened to vehicles.

The cemeteries can be accessed by pedestrians when closed to vehicles but the council urges people to exercise caution when visiting cemeteries in adverse weather and to ensure they wear appropriate clothing and footwear to avoid falls and injury.

Public toilets will be open on Saturday but closed on Sunday and Monday and then re-open on Tuesday, May 7.

The council said people should visit the leisure website or follow the RCTLeisureService on Facebook for details of their local centre’s opening hours.

The council is advising people to visit the websites or social media of the Welsh Mining Experience and Pontypridd Lido for events, activities and opening hours.

Libraries will be closed on Monday, May 6 and re-open on Tuesday, May 7.

One4all offices will be closed from 4pm on Friday, May 3 and re-open at 9am on Tuesday, May 7.

All schools are closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday, May 6, the council has advised people to visit the road closures section of their website for information on those and to contact companies directly for information about public transport.
