THE INSTALLATION of new electrical car charging points has begun at Margam Country Park this month, along with the completed refurbishments to the park’s public toilets.

The investment of around £368,000 was given to Neath Port Talbot Council through £250,000 worth of funding from Visit Wales’ Brilliant Basics fund, with a further £118,000 added by the authority to deliver the scheme.

The Brilliant Basics Fund supports public, third sector and not for profit organisations in Wales to help deliver small scale tourism improvements.

A council spokesperson said: “The recently refurbished Castle Courtyard public facilities include better provision for families with a unisex parent and child toilet and additional cubicles for visitors with varying degrees of access needs.

“The electric vehicle charging points will be located in the main visitor car park and the Orangery car park and will enable our visitors to charge their electric vehicles during their visit.”

Cllr Cen Phillips, Neath Port Talbot Council’s cabinet member for nature, tourism and wellbeing, added: “We are pleased to have been able to secure funding via the Brilliant Basics scheme to enable this important investment to go ahead.

“We would like to thank our visitors for their patience and understanding while the courtyard facilities were closed, allowing the works to be completed as quickly as possible.”

It comes just weeks after the addition of new recycling bins at the popular site, which have been placed throughout the park for visitors to use, with the aim of improving the experience and helping the environment.
