Police continue searching for missing Llanelli person

DYFED-POWYS POLICE, the RNLI and HM Coastguard are continuing to look for Darren Rees, aged 43, who was reported missing in the Machynys area of Llanelli last night, where he had been cockling during low tide.

Speaking to The Herald, Chief Inspector Chris Neve said “We are currently conducting a large scale search on the coastal area of Llanelli for Mr Darren Rees.   As part of the search we are working very closely with the Coastguard and RNLI and have assets such as air support and marine units to assist us in trying to locate Mr Rees.

“In addition to the coastal search, we are conducting a number of other enquiries in and around the Llanelli area as part of this incident and are using specialist resources to support that activity.

“We will also be supporting Mr Rees’ family with specially trained officers during this very difficult time.”

Chief Insp Neve is asking that family, friends or other members of the community do not put themselves in danger in trying to assist with the search at this time.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone who has turned up this morning to help us search for Mr Rees.  I am however very concerned that the Loughor Estuary is an extremely dangerous and volatile area.  I am therefore asking the public to have confidence in us and our partners in searching for Mr Rees whilst utilising trained staff and specialist equipment.  I can assure the public that everything that can be done is being done and ask that people do not attend the area to assist in the search at this time”.

Chief Insp Neve is also appealing for anyone who has any relevant information for this enquiry, or has CCTV covering the North Dock or Pentre Nicklaus Village area to please contact police, quoting reference DP-20201103-248.
