Protest in Carmarthen over broken promise to build new school in Llanelli

PARENTS and protestors gathered outside Carmarthenshire County Council today to slam Plaid Cymru’s refusal to build a new special school for Ysgol Heol Goffa in Llanelli.

Charlie said, “I was delighted to meet some of the parents of Ysgol Heol Goffa today outside Carmarthenshire County Council. Plaid Cymru have promised this new school since 2017. Now they have gone back on those promises.

“Budgets are under enormous pressure. However, if they didn’t dither and delay, they could have built the new special school for far less, before inflation started to bite. And it’s all about priorities. There can be no greater priority than looking after the county’s children and young people with additional learning needs.

“The council has chosen to invest in schemes such as a £17 million cycle path in north Carmarthenshire instead, and the Welsh Labour Government have prioritised things like more politicians in the Senedd and blanket 20mph speed limits over spending on education.

“It was good to see parents, residents and people from across different political parties at the protest. It is time Carmarthenshire Council did the right thing, and stuck to their promises.

“The new school for Ysgol Heol Goffa must go ahead.”
