LLANDEILO Bowling Club (LBC) held its annual President’s charity day last Saturday (10th August 2024) with funds raised going to the President, Gareth James’ chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
As the bowlers came out onto the green for the first of a series of fun competitions of the afternoon, “the spider”, the sun came out too. The competition for a bottle of champagne which involved over 40 bowlers bowling simultaneously towards a jack on the centre of the green was won by Pat James.
Jamie Davies, club captain, split members at random into 4 teams and there followed a succession of hilarious games on the green involving skittles, blind folds and bulls eye targets. Much banter and frivolity ensued. Club embossed mugs were won by the winners Phil Latham, Dai Thomas, Amy Dyer and Philip Hancock. The President’s team couldn’t pull it off and each member of the team went home with a wooden spoon!
After the games a BBQ was held with King Jones cooking suitably attired in a cheeky apron! Members all contributed to the finest of spreads with a sumptuous array of food that was enjoyed by all.
The event concluded with a raffle with so many prizes donated by members that everyone who had bought tickets seemed to go home with a prize.
In summing up the afternoon, Gareth referred to the mural in Parc Le Conquet, at which the bowling green and clubhouse are sited, which reads “Gyda’n gilydd yn gryfach” – “ stronger together”. LBC’s President’s day was a reflection of how by pulling together and supporting one another success can be achieved, the result of everyone’s combined generosity was £850.50 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
