Everything you need to know about Llanelli Half Marathon 2024

As the Tata Steel Llanelli Half Marathon edges closer, runners are starting to feel the excitement in the build-up to race day. The event, which takes place next Sunday will be the first time it returns to its February date since the COVID epidemic.

Steph Hole, Event Manager, said: “We can’t wait to stage our first event of the year at the Llanelli Half Marathon and 10K next Sunday. It is always a great event and we’re excited to introduce new the 10K distance, making it a more accessible race for all!”

To help runners and spectators find out everything they need to know ahead of race day, we’ve put together a complete low down below.

When & Where?

The event will take place on Sunday 25th February 2024. Both the 10K and Half Marathon will start and finish at Festival Fields (SA14 4DP), just off the A484, which is ideally located, with plenty of parking close to the start!  The race will be led by official vehicle partners at Gravells setting the half marathon runners on their way at 9 am with the 10K runners following suit at 9.30am.

How can I sign up?

Entry to the 10K is closed, and the half marathon is closing soon, so if you want a place, you’d better be quick! Alternatively, you can run for any of the charities listed below!

Running for charity

Many runners will be raising money for charity and good causes as they compete on race day. For those who haven’t yet chosen their charity, it’s not too late! Runners can still donate or raise funds for the official charities listed here: Hywel Dda, 2wish, Shelter Cymru, Prostate Cymru or Air Wales Ambulance.

Headline sponsors and the team at Tata Steel Trostre are proud to be taking to the route again this year to support runners, making sure everyone stays hydrated throughout. They will have a strong team of 28 running and raising funds for three local charities that include: Foothold, Mind, and Prostate Cymru. All funds raised by those in the Tata Steel team will also be matched by Tata Steel.

Need to know

Race facilities will be open from 7.00 am, where runners will find everything, they need, including toilets, catering facilities, charities and massage tent. Toilets & Brecon Carreg water stations will also be located at points on the route, so runners needn’t worry about being caught short.

Road closures

The Tata Steel Llanelli 10K and Half Marathon events are run on closed roads and footpaths, so residents and participants are advised to plan their trip well in advance. The B4304 will be closed from 8.30 am.

Parking

Event parking is situated at Festival Fields, where there is only a short walk to start line. Car sharing is encouraged, so if you know others running why not share a lift? The parking is managed by Carmarthenshire County Council and can be booked in advance.

What to expect

The course will challenge runners to be their best on one of the first races of season. Both the 10K and Half Marathon route takes in some of the best views of West Wales. Although it’s often known for being slightly wet and windy at times, it’s hoped that conditions will be in the runners favour next week!

Where to spectate

Hundreds of well-wishers and spectators will be cheering on the runners at the start and finish area in Festival Fields but there’s a lot of ground to cover when running this race! So, why not head to North Dock where you can cheer on the runners and enjoy a hot drink or bacon butty from St Elli’s Bay from 7am?! Pwll, might be another good spot to watch your loved one put in their best performance and give them that boost, when they need it most!
