Hakin put five past Merlins Bridge

HAKIN United continued their push for the Division 1 title on Thursday night (Apr 6) as they beat Merlins Bridge 5-1 at The Obs.

The Observatory pitch held up well after two games on Tuesday and Wednesday and was passed fit to play for a third night in a row.

Adam John put Hakin ahead midway through the first half and Mark Jones doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Shane Walsh added a third goal shortly before the break to give the Wizards a mountain to climb if they were to get back into the game.

It could have got worse for the Bridge three minutes after as the home side were awarded a penalty. However, Leon Luby could not convert from the spot.

Walsh added a second and Hakin’s fourth on 58 minutes and two minutes later it was five as Jones added his second goal of the game.

Lewis Miller pulled a goal back for the Wizards in the closing stages but it was just a consolation effort.

The win for Hakin moves them to within two points of second placed Merlins Bridge, who have now finished their league campaign. The Vikings are now ten points behind with four games in hand on leaders Goodwick United.

On Saturday, April 8, Hakin visit Goodwick in a game that both sides will want to win.
