Neyland edge to victory over Lawrenny

NEYLAND earned a narrow win over Lawrenny on Saturday (May 13) as they chased down their target with three wickets in hand.

Neyland won the toss and chose to field and they were able to bowl their hosts out for 208.

Kyle Marsh made an early score of 26 from 24 balls for Lawrenny with four fours and a six but he was then caught by Patrick Bellerby off the bowling of Patrick Hannon.

Troy Purslowe was next in but he only lasted six balls before he was stumped by Sean Hannon off the bowling of Ross Hardy.

Wickets kept falling as Finley Lewis (9) was caught by Nick Koomen off the bowling of Jack John and Steve Lewis (8) was caught and bowled by Koomen.

That left Lawrenny on 83-4 and it was soon 104-5 as Ryan Morton was bowled by Brad McDermott-Jenkins having only added four runs to the board.

Joe Kidney was run out by John soon after as Lawrenny slipped to 106-6.

Opener Harry Thomas reached his fifty and he and Will Allen added 38 runs for the seventh wicket. Thomas hit eight fours and two sixes in his score of 73 but he was then caught by Sean Hannon off the bowling of brother Patrick.

Will Allen made a quickfire 24 from 12 balls with three fours and a six but he was caught by Sean Hannon off the bowling of Koomen.

Rob Williams and James Phillips then shared 36 runs for the ninth wicket as they looked to push the score up towards 200.

Williams hit a four and a six in his score of 14 but he was bowled by Sean Hannon.

Jamie Lewis also hit a four and a six before also falling victim to Hannon as Lawrenny finished their innings on 208 all out.

Phillips had hit three fours and a six as he finished unbeaten on 29 from 23 balls.

Nick Koomen scored 30 in reply for Neyland and there were also scores of 38 from Patrick Bellerby and 29 from Andrew Miller.

Ryan Morton took 3-32 for Lawrenny and Finley Lewis had 3-28. There was also a wicket for Rob Williams but it wasn’t enough to see the home side over the line.

Dai Davies finished unbeaten on 56 to see Neyland to victory.
