Pembrokeshire holiday cottage agency launches Welsh audio buttons in time for St David’s Day

Family-run holiday cottage agency, Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire, is launching a “Say It Like A Local” campaign in time for St David’s Day.

From 1st March potential guests looking at its cottage collection online will be able to check the pronunciation of more than 100 Welsh cottage names by pressing newly introduced audio buttons.

These easy-to-use sound buttons will provide users who are unfamiliar with the language of Wales with an audio clip of the property name spoken in Welsh.

Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire aims to inspire confidence in those unsure of how to pronounce Welsh, while giving them an insight into an historic culture and language.

“Names like Llain GwynforY SiedCnwc Y WylanTy Lwcus or Cych can be challenging for those who don’t speak Welsh or who are less confident with the language,” said Matthew Evans, CEO of Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire. “So, we are delighted to introduce this informative and fun feature on our website.

“We want our non-Welsh speaking guests to have a taste of our beautiful language,” he said.

First established in 1982, Coastal Cottages is now in its forty-second year of business and its collection features around 500 properties. The company is supportive of ongoing campaigns encouraging a wider use of the Welsh language. Originally based in Abercastle before moving to Haverfordwest in the early 2000s, they are particularly proud of their Pembrokeshire heritage as a company and as individuals within the team.
