Petrol prices in Pembrokeshire remain lower than the national average

GOOD news for drivers in Pembrokeshire as petrol prices remain lower than the national average, with some forecourts selling at less than 140p per litre. Despite the cost of oil rising recently, supermarkets in the area are still selling petrol for less than 10p per litre cheaper than the UK average. According to John Durham, who runs the Facebook page Pembrokeshire Petrol Price Watch, Tesco in Milford Haven offered the best price on Friday, selling petrol for 136.9p per litre.

Other petrol stations offering lower-than-average prices included Tesco Pembroke Dock at 137.9p, Asda Pembroke Dock at 139.7p, and Tesco and Morrisons in Haverfordwest at 139.9p. Even Gulf, North Road in Milford was selling petrol for only 140.7p per litre. Crossways, Neyland, Green Garage in Pembroke, Johnston, Pelcomb, Ocean Haze in St Davids, Letterston, and Square & Compass were also offering prices under 145p per litre.

However, not all petrol stations in the area were selling at the same price. Goodwick and Pentlepoir Services were found to be charging 152.9p per litre, one of the highest prices in Pembrokeshire.

Luke Bosdet, a fuel price spokesman for AA, said that drivers across the UK had so far avoided a significant increase in petrol prices but claimed that the pump-price postcode lottery remains an issue. The cost of a barrel of oil has risen by over 10 US dollars since mid-March after oil producer group Opec reduced production.

Diesel vehicle drivers are reportedly being ripped off, with average UK prices continuing to fall and currently sitting at 160.7p per litre. Mr Bosdet said that the gap between the average pump prices of petrol and diesel has shrunk from 24.7p in November to 13.8p this week, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that diesel has been cheaper than petrol for a month.

Diesel was also found to be selling for less than 150p per litre at some petrol stations in Pembrokeshire, including Kiln Park in Tenby at 141.9p, Begelly/Kilgetty at 144.9p, Crymych at 145.9p, and Robeston Wathen and Gernant Garage, Maenclochog at 149.9p. However, Goodwick and Pentlepoir Services were reportedly charging 164.9p per litre for diesel.

While it’s good news for drivers in Pembrokeshire, the fluctuating prices in different regions highlight the ongoing issue of the pump-price postcode lottery.
