Police hunt for violent criminal released ‘in error’ from jail

Rayon Newby

Police have released details of a man they describe as ‘a violent criminal’ who has been accidentally released from prison.

Rayon Newby, 20, was serving a custodial sentence after being convicted of assault, harassment and burglary.

But the prisoner was let go ‘in error’ on March 17 when he was allowed to walk free from HMP Thameside in East London.

Police didn’t release details of the error until today (Friday).

Scotland Yard has warned the public not to approach Newby and to contact officers immediately if he is seen.

“Police are appealing for help from the public to locate a wanted 20-year-old man, Rayon Newby, who is from east London,” commented a spokesman for the force.
