Quins continue winning run after beating Aberavon

CARMARTHEN Quins earned a big win on Friday night (Feb 24) as they beat third-placed Aberavon 28-17 in the Indigo Premiership.

Aberavon had not played since February 16 when they were beaten by Merthyr while the Quins’ last game saw them earn a narrow 20-23 win over Pontypridd.

It was the Quins who scored first under the lights with Steff Marshall sending a penalty through the posts.

Corum Nott then went over for the first try of the game but the conversion was missed and the Quins lead remained at 8-0.

With 25 minutes gone Aled Thomas went over for the Wizards but the conversion was also wayward.

Ten minutes later Marshall went over for the Quins’ second try and he then added the extras to stretch the lead to 15-5.

On the stroke of half time, Aberavon brought themselves right back into the game as Iwan Tremblett touched down before Thomas added the extras.

That made the score 15-12 and it was still all to play for in the second half.

The home side made a bright start to the second half and they were rewarded when Kallum Evans touched down just two minutes in before Marshall added the extras, making it 22-12.

Marshall then added a penalty soon after to increase the home side’s lead to 13 points.

With just over 20 minutes to go Aber pulled another try back with Joe Thomas scoring but the conversion was missed.

Marshall added a penalty monents later though to make the score 28-17 but there was still time left to play.

There was to be no more scoring as the Quins saw the game out to earn their fifth win of the season.

On Saturday, March 4, Carmarthen Quins host Merthyr while Aberavon are at home against Newport.
