A flood has caused damage on St Catherine’s Close in the Melyn

Severe flooding on Thursday (3 November) evening saw police advising people to avoid an area in Neath.

Due to water damage, at least one local company has temporarily shut its doors.

Photos showed high-visibility individuals paddling down the flooded road in a kayak, passing a car that was submerged in the water.

On St. Catherine’s Close in the Melyn section of the town, a torrent of overflowing water could be observed.

The A474 near a bingo club and garage was shut down, according to South Wales Police, because it was “totally flooded.”

According to Natural Resources Wales, it appears to be flooding from surface water.

On Thursday night, flooding also caused a slip lane on the M4 Westbound at Junction 43 in Neath Port Talbot to be blocked.

Wales has seen recent days of intense rain, and more is expected.

On Thursday evening, the Met Office anticipated heavy rain for large portions of south Wales and issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms.

On Saturday morning, more rain is expected to fall over the nation.
