Carew stun Goodwick to book semi-final spot

CAREW beat Goodwick United 1-0 on Saturday (Feb 12) to book their place in the semi-finals of the Senior Cup.

The two sides had met just two weeks ago with Goodwick earning a 1-0 win on that occasion and it was another close game on Saturday.

There was little to separate the teams in the first half with just a couple of yellow cards being handed out by the referee.

The only goal of the game came twenty minutes into the second half with Iwan Izzard scoring what would prove to be the winner.

That wasn’t the end of the drama though as Goodwick looked to get themselves back in the game.

However, Jordan Griffiths, who had only come on as a sub five minutes into the second half, picked up two yellow cards in the space of a two minutes to earn his marching orders.

Sub Sam Christopher, who had not been brought on, then also picked up two yellow cards in the space of two minutes.

Zac Rowell was also also shown a straight red card in injury time as the game finished 10v10.

Carew were able to hold on though and they will now look forward to their semi-final tie against the winners of the game between KIlgetty and Pembroke Boro, that match being played next Saturday (Feb 19).

Both sides will return to league action on Saturday with Carew hosting Narberth while Goodwick host Monkton Swifts.
