Luke Evans shares preview of him performing Tom Jones, now fans are calling for him to star in biopic

Fans of Luke Evans have been calling for him to play Sir Tom Jones in a biopic after the Welsh actor shared a clip of him performing an incredible cover of It’s Not Unusual. Evans shared the video on his social media feeds, in which he performs a duet of the Tom Jones classic with Olly Murs.

People were quick to point out how similar Evans sounded to the iconic singer, with one saying: “Luke Evans for Tom Jones biopic,” and another saying: “Omg put out a Tom Jones cover album PLEASE.”

The clip was taken from Evans’ Christmas TV special, Luke Evans Showtime! The actor, from Aberbargoed, said on social media: “What a joy to sing this @realsirtomjones classic with @OllyMurs… and in Wales!”

Evans has always been proud of his Welsh identity, and recently stated: “I’ve really fought for people to know that I am a Welsh actor, I’m a British actor – but I am Welsh and I’m very proud of that.

“We’re a small country but we’ve managed to get ourselves on the world stage of sport, culture, music, fashion, culinary talent, poetry – we’ve done so well. And I’m just proud to be part of that.”

It’s been a big year for him, too – he’s been repeatedly tipped to be the next 007, something he admitted he wouldn’t say no to if he was offered. But if his fans had any say, he’d be playing Tom Jones first.

After he shared the clip of the song cover, one commenter asked “Is it time for a Tom Jones biopic?” and dozens more pointed out how similar Evans sounded to Sir Tom himself. One said: “Can’t wait to see this Welsh show. I know you are a fan of Tom Jones. You can be proud of your origins.” Another added: “I never knew how good a singer you are,” and one said: “Great voice brother, you almost sound just like Tom.”
