A PONTERWYD organisation has been awarded over £7,000 by BBC Children in Need to offer support for disadvantaged children and young people based in Ceredigion. RAY Ceredigion provides play sessions and support for children and young people in Ponterwyd and the surrounding areas. With funding from Children in Need RAY Ceredigion aims to improve family relationships, enable the children to become more physically active, and have increased self-belief through play. The grant will enable the organisation to provide play sessions that build positive relationships between children and increased well being for participants.
BBC Children in Need now funds four projects in Ceredigion with over £175,726 hard at work to benefit young lives in the region. The Charity awards grants at seven points during the year, more funding will be pledged to projects in the UK throughout 2016. Speaking of the grant, Gill Byrne at RAY Ceredigion said: “We will develop children’s self-belief through building strong, positive, and affirming relationships with our play work staff, reducing young people’s feelings of loneliness of isolation. The funding from BBC Children in Need will allow us to continue to provide opportunities for disadvantaged young people and ensure they become empowered and encouraged to make positive choices.” Jemma Wray, National Head of BBC Children in Need in Wales added: “At BBC Children in Need we fund projects making a tangible difference to young lives.
Ray Ceredigion is a great example of one of our Small Grants in action. These include anything up to £10,000 across one year and can really demonstrate how relatively small sums of money can have a huge impact. Thank you all.” BBC Children in Need funds two types of grants; both of which are open to new applicants. A Small Grants Programme includes grants up to and including £10,000, which supports projects for one year, while the Main Grants Programme is for grants over £10,000 per year to support projects for up to three years.
