AM goes green for school

leewatersLLANELLI AM, Lee Waters, has been getting his hands dirty helping out volunteers with the community garden in Swiss Valley.

The flourishing garden in the grounds of Swiss Valley Primary School is enthusiastically tended by Groundforce Swiss Valley – currently Cynnal Cymru ‘s ‘Sustainable Community Group of the Year ‘ .

Lee joined parents and children tidying up the garden and carrying out maintenance. He said: “The spirit of the school community was clear to see. It was lovely to see families coming together to improve their local environment, and to use their outdoor space for learning. ”

Swiss Valley Primary teacher, Neil Lane, said “The garden has provided the stimulus for enterprise opportunities and curriculum links for the school including literacy, numeracy and ICT culminating in an ‘ Enterprise Troopers Business Award ‘, run by Welsh Government in 2015. Lee is very busy at the moment but his attendance today is appreciated by pupils, parents, staff and the Headteacher”.

“It was great fun helping the children fill the compost bins. But my wife wasn’t very impressed seeing pictures of me with muddy hands when she does all the work in our garden ! ” Lee added.
