ARE YOU able to ‘adopt’ a path in your local area and volunteer your time to help out with its upkeep?
If you love getting out in the fresh air, and have a favourite path that you frequent, then your local authority would love to hear from you.
Ceredigion County Council have recently launched their ‘Adopt a Path’ Scheme, funded by the Welsh Government’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan, in a bid to increase public knowledge, use and enjoyment of the extensive path network throughout the county.
The council would like to recruit residents who regularly walk paths, so they can report back on any problems or obstructions which are limiting the use of the specific pathway.
It is also hoped that volunteers will help with any minor maintenance that is required, such as cutting back vegetation to keep the paths accessible for other users.
Russell Hughes-Pickering, Head of Performance and Economy at Ceredigion County Council, said: “In addition to highlighting the availability of the paths for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders, the scheme will also seek to create greater local involvement in looking after paths, and in doing so, provides a sense of ownership for those who use and enjoy them the most.”
